Photo of Hunter HoganPrior to painting I was a tapestry weaver and patterns continue to show up in my work. I believe that paint has a language as well as the image or content of a painting.

The structure, layering and brushwork are as important as color to create a mood.

I like to make loose stained under paintings, and then sketches to lead me into forms representing the series I am working on. Memories of landscapes and sketches become organic layers and shapes. Painting in and painting out builds layers and creates an interesting surface.

I try to interpret nature in an intuitive manner, scruffy, romantic elegance and whimsey without being overtly sentimental.

Hunters work is displayed in several corporate collections including Sterling Drug, Chugai-Upjohn, Ernst and Young, Satellite Health Care of Mountain View, California, and the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. One of her tapestries was included in a show entitled "Significant Colorado Women Artists of the 20th Century" which traveled around the western region and to the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C.
